The Inside Story

A memoir retreat and workshop for women ready to write their hearts out

Facilitated by Betsy Block and Sandra A. Miller

November 6 - 8, 2026

Writing, Storytelling, and the Craft of Discovery

Join us in beautiful Charlestown, Rhode Island for a weekend of community and connection, while making meaningful progress on a writing project.

A small group of us will gather in a lovely private home near the ocean, where we will write, share meals, nurture our craft, and generate new work or deepen a work in progress.

Sandra and Betsy believe that writing is about more than producing words. It’s a process of discovering what you’re trying to say, then finding the compassion and courage needed to do true and resonant work.

Throughout the weekend, we will cultivate a supportive environment where each participant explores the inward path to their unique story.

For Memoirists, Personal Essayists, and Emerging Writers

This workshop is for you if you are writing—or eager to write—memoir or essays. It’s also for those looking for a community of openhearted people who appreciate the vulnerabilty it takes to tell your story on the page.

You bring the who, what, and where. We’ll help you discover the how and why.

A Weekend of Writing and Connection

Participants will arrive Friday for an evening of introductions, a hearty meal in front of the fire, and plenty of laughter. On Saturday, we’ll spend a full day together writing, learning, and connecting over breakfast and lunch. Sunday will be for workshops to discuss everyone’s projects.

(Saturday dinner is your time to explore area restaurants.)

A Supportive Writing Community

Following the workshop, each participant will receive a 45-minute Zoom consultation with Sandra and Betsy to further discuss your work and explore ideas for moving your project forward, including publication.
